FOUNDER’S MESSAGE
The underlying assumption that people with diagnosed psychiatric illnesses are incapable of contributing to society in any meaningful way is a misnomer. Given broad-based acceptance Dig My Roots Foundation (DMRF) can evoke social change both actively and perceptually, thus realistically creating a more just world.
I believe that life has a way of unfolding, often life experiences as we are going through them seem tragic and insurmountable. I have found that faith tempered with perseverance eventually brings you to your true destiny in life. The actual test is what you do while in the valley of uncertainty, confusion and self doubt. The essence of life is finding value and purpose in all experiences, staying the course and never losing sight of your personal vision.
Throughout my life I have been faced with situations that have shaken my resolve. As an adolescent I was traumatized by the death of my father and raised by a single mother. I have auditory and visual learning disabilities and possess a chronic mental illness known as Schizo-Affective Disorder. As a divorced single parent of a ten year old son I have financially survived due to Social Security Disability Income. I identify with the personal challenges of individuals with psychiatric illnesses, embrace their need for additional services of support and prescribe a solution “rooted” in education.
During the depths of psychosis, moments of time in my life characterized by health care professionals as irrational and distorted thoughts, I had both a figurative and literal vision for social change. I recognized that the resourceful use of my formal education and life skill strategies was a testament to the validity of my vision. After receiving appropriate treatment for psychotic episodes I closely examined my life and realistically developed a mission.
Dig My Roots Foundation dares to be visionary. Initiating an allegiance of effort that reinforces a commitment to assist in enhancing the lives of individuals diagnosed with psychiatric illnesses.
Can you dig it?
